DeGods, one of the most popular and valuable NFT collections, is thinking about a surprising move: going back to the Solana blockchain after switching to Ethereum last year.
What are DeGods NFTs?
DeGods are a collection of digital images, known as PFPs (profile picture projects). These images feature characters with a godlike theme. DeGods were first created on the Solana blockchain in late 2021; at their peak, they were the most valuable NFT collection on that entire blockchain.
Why DeGods Moved to Ethereum
2022 and early 2023 were difficult for the Solana blockchain. It was closely connected to FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange that collapsed. This led the creators of DeGods to move the project to the Ethereum blockchain in April 2023.
The company behind DeGods, Dust Labs, wanted to find a new home with more possibilities and fewer problems than Solana was facing at the time. They felt that to become the biggest NFT collection in the world, they needed to be on the Ethereum blockchain, which has the largest marketplace for NFTs.
Success on Ethereum
The DeGods collection did very well even after shifting to Ethereum. It often cracked the top 10 NFT projects in terms of sales.
The Potential Return to Solana
Now things might change again. The founder of Dust Labs, Rohun “Frank” Vora, recently hinted on Twitter that they are working on bringing DeGods back to Solana. He shared a test image showing how NFTs could be moved back to the Solana blockchain.
The exact reason for this possible change is unclear, but it would be a huge development for DeGods. This potential “homecoming” could mean big changes for the project and possibly even kickstart a new wave of excitement for NFTs created on the Solana blockchain.
The NFT Community Reacts
Right now, we don’t know for sure if DeGods will officially return to Solana. However, Frank’s hint has caused a lot of discussion within the community interested in NFTs. People are curious to see what’s next for this popular collection.
